So, you got yourself a ToneX One and maybe you are wondering… can this little thing really be my whole guitar rig? Well, with the Xsonic Airstep TX, the answer gets very close to yes.
This video was a sponsored one, so yeah, I got paid and also got to keep the unit. But trust me, this pedal is fun.
What It Actually Does
The Airstep TX is basically a foot controller made for the ToneX One. But it’s not just that — it has a built-in battery that powers itself and the ToneX One for about three hours. That is kind of crazy. Imagine showing up at a gig with just your guitar, the ToneX One and this box, and you are ready.
You get four footswitches, and with banks, you can access a bunch of presets. Want even more control? Download the Airstep app on your phone. From there, you can tweak all kinds of stuff and even see what’s happening inside the ToneX without touching the pedal.
And then there’s effects mode. With one click, those switches control compression, modulation, delay, even a noise gate. There’s also tap tempo for your time-based effects. Suddenly, this tiny rig feels like a full multi-effects unit.
Playing Experience
In use, it just works. Switch between presets, jump banks, lights show you where you are. Easy enough. I was using presets made by my buddy Mikko, so I had no idea what sounds were coming next — but it all flowed smoothly.
There is a bit of a learning curve remembering what every button does, but once you get used to it, it’s fine. And if you want to go deeper, the app makes it way easier.
Why Bother With This?
Honestly, this thing gives you more flexibility than the bigger ToneX pedal. More switches, more banks, more control. And for me, I could easily gig with just this rig. Small, simple, but powerful.
Price-wise, the ToneX One and Airstep TX together cost around 250 euros. For that money, you basically have a whole guitar rig in your backpack.
Final Words
The Xsonic Airstep TX takes the ToneX One to a new level. From home practice to live gigs, it makes the small box much more than just a single pedal.
It’s not perfect, but for many guitar players, this setup might really be all you need.
