The REVV G3 is one of those pedals that made a strong impression on me right away.
A lot of high-gain pedals promise amp-like tones. However, many of them end up sounding smaller, flatter or more compressed than a real amp. The REVV G3 is different. It sounds huge, it stays tight, and it has enough control to work with very different guitars and rigs.
In this REVV G3 review, I’ll explain why this pedal has stayed in my setup for years, why I still think it is one of the best high-gain pedals I have used, and where it makes the most sense.
Disclaimer: This pedal was provided to me by REVV, and we have worked together on numerous videos over the years. However, even with a long-term collaboration like this, the company has no say in what I mention in the video or this post, nor do they get to see the content before it is released.
What Is the REVV G3?
The REVV G3 is a high-gain distortion and preamp pedal. It is based on the famous purple channel of the REVV Generator 120 amplifier.
The pedal gives you a simple but powerful control set. You get Volume, Gain, Bass, Middle, and Treble controls. You also get a three-way Aggression switch.
Because of that, the REVV G3 gives you a lot of control without becoming difficult to use.
More importantly, the REVV G3 feels like a serious piece of gear. It does not feel like just another generic metal pedal.
First Impressions of the REVV G3
I first got the REVV G3 in 2018, and I still remember opening the box.
The pedal felt solid right away. The purple finish also looked great. In fact, I was so excited that I forgot to film a first reaction video.
More importantly, the sound stood out immediately.
From the first chord, the REVV G3 felt different from many other high-gain pedals I had tried. Instead of making my amp feel smaller, it gave me a huge and aggressive sound that still stayed tight and clear.
That was the moment I realized this pedal was something special.
What Does the REVV G3 Sound Like?
The REVV G3 is clearly aimed at modern high-gain tones. Even so, it does not sound one-dimensional.
The pedal sounds big, aggressive, and focused. At the same time, it avoids the harsh or fizzy top end that some distortion pedals have.
That balance is one of the main reasons I like it so much.
The active EQ helps a lot here. It makes the REVV G3 easier to match with different amps and guitars. Because of that, the pedal feels more flexible than many high-gain pedals in the same category.
I was also impressed by how well it worked with different instruments. I got great results not only with humbucker guitars, but also with a semi-hollow guitar loaded with vintage-style pickups.
Why I Still Use the REVV G3
A lot of pedals come and go. The REVV G3 stayed.
That alone says a lot.
I have used the REVV G3 with my Tele, with a semi-hollow guitar, and even with a 6-string baritone tuned to B standard. In all of those cases, the pedal still delivered the kind of tone I wanted.
That versatility matters to me.
I have also used the REVV G3 in different ways. For example, I have run it in front of an amp, into an amp loop, and alongside digital gear. It kept working well in all of those setups.
Because of that, the REVV G3 never felt like a one-trick pedal to me.
What I Like About the REVV G3
There are a few reasons why the REVV G3 has stayed in my rig for so long.
- The distortion sounds huge but still controlled
- The EQ is powerful and useful
- The pedal works with very different guitars
- The build quality feels excellent
- The REVV G3 works both as a distortion pedal and as a preamp-style pedal
That is a strong combination.
Is the REVV G3 Good?
Yes, I think the REVV G3 is very good.
It is not the cheapest high-gain pedal on the market. However, it sounds and feels like a premium product.
More importantly, the REVV G3 has stayed useful to me for years. That matters more than hype or specs.
A lot of pedals sound exciting for a week or two. Then they disappear from the board. The REVV G3 did the opposite. It earned a long-term place in my setup.
To me, that says almost everything.
Final Thoughts on the REVV G3
The REVV G3 is one of those rare pedals that actually lives up to the hype.
It sounds huge, feels great to play through, and works with a wide range of guitars and rigs. More importantly, it has stayed relevant in my setup for years.
If you want a high-gain pedal that can genuinely earn a long-term place on your board, the REVV G3 is absolutely worth a look.
